ELH Student Delivers Baby

Articles

Unfortunately it isn’t huge news when a teenager is pregnant in our hood – it is something that is far too common, however it is BIG news when a teenager has to deliver one and that is just what happened this week, when ELH Bomb Squad member Ceci Camayo went into labor a month early at the home of fellow Bomb Squad member Jessie Martinez. Amazingly enough, the Siren was there to witness this momentous event, first hand!

That night, right after the funeral of Jessie’s dear mother, Lupe Martinez, Ceci and I stayed late to help Jesse clean up. All of the sudden, there was a pool of water on the floor…we thought something had spilled but Ceci’s water broke and her labor started mad fast. Jessie called for an ambulance but things were progressing quickly and the ambulance was taking what seemed like an eternity to arrive! Jessie called 911 again, and the operator told her to check Ceci’s choncha and that is when Jessie saw the top of a little head. That is when Jessie sprang into action and followed the instructions from the 911 operator. She put her hands down there and caught the baby’s head as it came out. We tried to keep Ceci calm because she was really scared and it was crazy how much pain she was in. We were all terrified….seriously girls THINK HARD before you have unprotected sex – this is some serious s*&^! Jessie guided the rest of the babies’ body to come out. When the little baby cried, we knew she was ok. Yes,, the baby’s a girl and Ceci named her Isela.

When asked what she thought of the job Jessie did delivering the baby, Ceci replied. “She did good. But, I’m the one who did all the real work. That hurt like hell!” As always, Jessie was humble about the part she played in the delivery. She said, “I just did what the 911 operator told me to.” But, when asked if she was grossed out by all the blood and gunk coming out of Ceci’s choncha, Jessie replied. “Actually, no. I thought it was kinda cool.” Sounds like someone is ready for a career in the medical profession.
